How To Turn Off Apps On Motorola Droid

Motorola Droid 2

Motorola Droid 2

The original Motorola Droid is considered the phone that put Android on the map. And now Verizon is following up its superstar with a soup-up sequel, the Droid 2.

The basic design remains the same. You have the same 3.7-inch touchscreen, a horizontal sliding keyboard that has received a few improvements, noise-canceling microphones, a dedicated camera button, a 5-megapixel camera, 1GHz processor, the works.

Announced: Aug 10, 2010

Released: Aug 12, 2010

Australian carrier Telstra will get the Motorola Xoom 2 -- aka the Droid XYBOARD on Verizon here in the States. Nothing has changed, really, from the version we reviewed earlier this year. Same 10.1-inch display, same 1.2GHz processor, with 32GB of storage. Pricing variers depending on the data plan, which starts at $29 a month for 1GB and hits $89 a month for 15GB of data. (Those are...

Those of you who woke up with a Motorola Droid 2 by your side should start pressing the update button now, because your Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is available. It's actually Android 2.3.3 and not the more recent Android 2.3.4, but we'll take what we can get at this point. In addition to the OS update, here's what you can expect:New Download Manager AppUnder Manage Applications, a...

Droid 2 Gingerbread update support page live, hopefully OTA not far behind

Jerry Hildenbrand

Verizon has published the Motorola Droid 2 Gingerbread update support pages, and that's usually a sign that the update isn't far off.  The update will bring the Droid 2 to Android 2.3, and software version 4.5.601.A955.Verizon.en.US (that's a mouthful) as well as an update to Blur not Blur and several bug fixes.  The key enhancements as listed by Verizon:New Download Manager AppUnder...

Microsoft tries to keep Motorola from importing phones it's no longer selling anyway

Phil Nickinson

Look at the list of Motorola smartphones that Microsoft has dragged out before the International Trade Commission in hopes of blocking future imports, and you can't help but chuckle. Oh, there are a couple of high-enders there -- the Droid X and Droid 2 -- but everything else is an also-ran -- the Charm, Cliq XT, Backflip and Devour. And considering most of them either have gone the way...

Gingerbread leaked for the Droid 2 Global

Gingerbread leaked for the Droid 2 Global

Jerry Hildenbrand

It's been a while since we heard any Gingerbread news for the Droid 2 Global, as Motorola seems to have slowed things down after finding some issues with Gingerbread.  But thanks to Android developer aceoyame, we now have a leaked build to play with.  It's not yet rooted, and there seems to be some confusion about it unlocking the D2G bootloader (spoiler: it doesn't), but it is Android...

Droid 3 backordered, slew of devices on Verizon end-of-life list, internal memo says

Phil Nickinson

We just got slipped a little internal memo, purportedly from Big Red, catching up on some Verizon supply and end-of-life news. Here's the breakdown:Motorola Droid 3: Seeing some backorders. (Not sure if that means non many were ordered by Verizon in the first place, or if it's that popular. We'll hope for the latter.)Samsung Continuum: Good luck finding one. If a store has it, it's...

Android Accessory Review: Body Glove Case for the Motorola Droid 2

Android Accessory Review: Body Glove Case for the Motorola Droid 2

Jared DiPane

Like many of you out there I have a love/hate relationship with cases on my device, I love the protection, but often times hate the feel. With a recent change of career I found myself looking for a nice rugged case that I could use with a belt clip, or without if I wanted, and while this may seem like a lot to look for in a case, I was able to find it all with the Body Glove Case for...

Motorola Droid Pro, Droid 2 and Droid X said to be getting Gingerbread

Motorola Droid Pro, Droid 2 and Droid X said to be getting Gingerbread

Phil Nickinson

Well, two out of three ain't bad, folks. Way back in early December, we asked Android Central Seer (it's on his business card) Jerry Hildenbrand to predict which phones might get the upgrade to Gingerbread. And out of Motorola's stable he picked the Droid 2 (and Droid 2 Global) as well as the Droid X. Easy choices, both. And while we don't have it recorded for posterity, I distinctly...

Netflix app ported to Droid X, Droid 2, and OG Droid

Netflix app ported to Droid X, Droid 2, and OG Droid

Joshua Munoz

I know the Netflix app has been out for all of a few hours, but it looks like that's all it took for some of the hard-working developers at XDA to port it over to the Droid X, Droid 2, and OG Droid. Keep in mind all these phones are running either a leaked Gingerbread build or a custom ROM running Gingerbread, but it's still great to know that Netflix is available to more of the masses....

Review: Otterbox Commuter for the Motorola Droid 2

Jared DiPane

Otterbox has always been one of my favorite cases, regardless of which device I am using at the time, and when I get a new device it is usually one of the first things I purchase. When I got my Droid 2, it was no different, I headed right to the Android Central store and picked up an Otterbox Commuter for the Droid 2 to ensure that my device was safe. The standard Otterbox packaging has...

Gingerbread leak for the Droid X and Droid 2 has been rooted

Jared DiPane

Just the other night we saw a leak of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) for the Motorola Droid 2 and Motorola Droid X, but unfortunately at that time users had to decide if they wanted to give up their root. Since then we have gone hands on, and seen a few interesting bits about the update, and now the folks at MyDroidWorld have posted a pre-rooted build for us all to enjoy, so users who enjoy...

Verizon gives $100 discount on every Droid phone in stock

Kyle Gibb

It looks like Verizon wants to start the month of March with a bang as they are offering steep discounts on every Droid phone in their inventory. It would seem that Big Red has slashed a cool $100 from the two-year contract price of the phones across the board. Here is a quick rundown on the deals to be had:OG DROID - FreeDroid Incredible - FreeDroid X - $49Droid 2 - FreeDroid R2D2 -...

Android Central ROM review: ApeX 1.4

Jerry Hildenbrand

For many of us, half the fun of having an Android phone is running a customized version of the OS on our phones.  OK, more than half.  Custom ROMs can offer a very different experience from what the manufacturer intended, and often times it's like having a new phone to play with.  This week, Android Central forums moderator terpitude71 is going to have a look at the ApeX 1.4 ROM as...

Droid 2 Global maintenance update set to arrive soon, fixes Global calling issues

Bla1ze

Proud owner of a Droid 2 Global but seeing some bugs? If so, Verizon has some bug fixes for you on the way. As noted in the image above which was taken from a .PDF off of the Verizon website, it looks like Big Red will be rolling out the update at some point in time soon. When installed, you should find yourself sitting at v2.4.330.  As for the bugs it fixes, the .PDF notes the...
